First museum outside Japan

Instant noodles started with Momofuku Ando’s invention of Chicken Ramen in 1958, followed by the Cup Noodles in 1971 that changed how the world enjoys quick meals.

Back in 2020, we created everything for the first-ever Cup Noodles Museum outside Japan, right here in Hong Kong. From designing the official website with easy ticket booking to crafting cool physical stuff like tickets and wristbands, we focused on making the whole experience fun, smooth, and true to the brand’s creative spirit.

Outcome

Outcome

The official website and online ticketing system I designed proved crucial in managing the museum's overwhelming popularity. TripAdvisor reviews consistently highlighted sold-out workshops and recommended pre-booking online - a testament to the system's effectiveness in handling high demand.

By building an intuitive booking process and providing real-time availability updates, our team ensured the digital experience delivered accessibility and visitor satisfaction, allowing guests to plan ahead and fully enjoy this unique cultural destination.

I conducted market research on Nissin Foods' official website and CUPNOODLES MUSEUM Japan sites before diving deep into the wireframe and UI design.

Wireframe

Wireframe

During the wireframe design phase for the online reservation system, we considered displaying three separate calendars to allow users to choose dates for different workshop types. To enhance clarity and usability, we decided to consolidate the three calendars into a single, unified calendar view.

The first approach would clutter the interface and create visual confusion with multiple navigation arrows.

This design simplified the visual layout, making it easier for users to navigate and book workshops efficiently.

We brought the design to life with a visually engaging experience that resonated with the CUPNOODLES brand.

We brought the design to life with a visually engaging experience that resonated with the CUPNOODLES brand.

To highlight selected dates, we transformed the selector into a distinctive red CUPNOODLES cup, creating an instant visual connection to the brand. Color-coded dots beneath each date indicate workshop availability, allowing visitors to quickly scan options and plan their visit with ease.

To make browsing seamless, we introduced a swipe interaction that let users effortlessly scroll through workshop time slots with a simple gesture. This intuitive design not only streamlined the booking process but also infused the digital experience with the playful spirit of the museum.

I designed dedicated landing pages for each workshop - My CUPNOODLES Factory, Demae Iccho Factory, and My Granola Factory. Each featured custom branding elements, from tailored color palettes to product-specific pattern, creating distinct identities while maintaining cohesive brand consistency throughout the digital experience.

I established a comprehensive design system that unified the digital experience. From typography and color schemes to buttons and iconography, every component reflected the brand's playful energy. This systematic approach ensured visual consistency across all touchpoints while streamlining development and enabling future scalability.

I also designed the CMS backend to support museum operations.

The interface included purchase selection for workshops and sessions, comprehensive order summaries and payment record. This administrative system was built for clarity and ease of use, allowing staff to manage visitor bookings efficiently while maintaining full operational oversight.

Ticket design explorations for each workshop (near-final version).

Original concept for the entrance wristband design.

The workshop schedule display at the museum entrance.

Although my time at the company concluded before the CUPNOODLES MUSEUM Hong Kong's grand opening, I contributed significantly to the museum's first impression by designing tickets and workshop schedules display. The ticket design featured vibrant colors and mascots for each workshop, ensuring a unified and memorable brand experience.
